The Current #mumtumbigbum Situation

I have been pregnant for 20 out of the past 28 months.

My body has created and delivered two beautiful babies. It also realised that another baby wasn’t strong enough for this world.

I was angry with my body when I lost a baby at 8 weeks in February 2011. My family and I were obviously devastated but as time passed I developed a new found respect for my body. It had created a baby but realised something wasn’t right.

We fell pregnant again straight away and after a normal healthy pregnancy I gave birth to my baby girl on her due date, 12.12.12!

I was active throughout my pregnancies but the massive physical and hormonal changes to my body over such a relatively short period of time, has taken its toll.

The current situation is that the muscles in my stomach and bum are weak. This has caused a muscle imbalance so the opposite muscles in my lower back and hip flexors are tight and shortened.

The muscle imbalance is pulling my pelvis out of alignment and causing me lower back pain. This tilting of my pelvis causes an exaggerated lumber curve, so my bum and belly stick out (Mum Tum, Big Bum!)

The immediate plan is to strengthen the weak muscles (tum & bum) and stretch and release the tight muscles (lower back and hip flexors). I’m taking a total body approach but focusing on these areas.

I am carrying extra weight but this won’t be and shouldn’t be the focus of training. If you are following a healthy diet and building muscles, weight loss will be a pleasant side effect!

I will be monitoring my progress through pictures so I can see the realignment of my pelvis. I will also be taking some girth measurements to ensure I’m on the right track. Follow me on instagram at revitalizefitness.
